A friend of mine wrote a long essay about the literary and moral responses to war. It contains a lot of similar and interesting references.

I've felt a HUGE surge in creative energy lately myself - it helps me cope. I'm thankful that while the rest of the world is ugly, at least creativity can still bring about beauty...
