it's official

California is the laughing stock of the nation, what with Gary Coleman's gubernatorial run sponsored by a Bay Area weekly newspaper and the 99 cent stores trying to put a 99-year-old (get it? get it?) man on the ballot. I tell you, the only thing that can restore some dignity to all this madness and put the Democrats back in the race again is if Sean Penn announces he'll run. Arnold vs. Sean. Now that's something I'd like to see.

Hasn't California always been the laughing stock of the nation?

Oh, fiddle-dee-dee upon you! It's just a ploy by the republicans to take the nation's collective mind off their problems! Or something.

Seriously, it does make us look like a bunch of losers. We're not all crazy or stupid, but you wouldn't know that from reading the news!

I loved this lead from CNN: "A Hollywood action hero, a porn publisher and a handful of politicians walk into a courthouse. No, it's not the start of a joke. It's the official beginning of California's recall election."

The replacement candidates are beside the point. What really matters is that the Cal. democratic party is about to have its head handed to it, literally. Let's hope the object lesson is not lost on the current Lords of La-la Land.

Perhaps it might even start a trend away from the insane fiscal policies that have brought that mighty economic engine to its knees...
