Al here... just thought I'd share an email I just received:

The psycholinguist in me is fascinated... I wonder if this was a real study at Cmabrgde?
Maybe not Cmabrigde. The email chain is analyzed here. And of course LanguageHat is always on top of things like this.
BTW, I got it twice in the last week, and again this week, in French. I expect to get it a few times more.
Oh well... I thought I was onto something :(
I still think it is cool, though. I'm afraid it would totally destroy my connectionist models...

Cover up the bottom half of a line of text leaving the top half of the characters visible. More often than not, you'll have no difficulty reading the text. Now reverse this and cover the top half. Suddenly it's incomprehensible. (Agreed?
Or is that just me ? )
And does this only work with this alphabet ?
