from Sam Smith's article in the October issue of Harper's:
We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories. And we found more weapons as time went on. I never believed that we'd just tumble over weapons of mass destruction in that country. But for those who said we hadn't found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they were wrong, we found them. We knew where they were.

Posted by: Miel on October 18, 2003 11:51 PMReally impressive alright. Mr. Smith claims that all of the article is verbatum from Bush officials, but neglects to quote sources, as any respectable journalist would do.
Further, it reads as a unified whole rather than the series of speeches it purports to be. Dirty pool if you ask me. Does he ever pull that stuff on non-Republicans? I bet not.
Finally, while some (only some) of the intelligence might have been off the mark, the fact is that even Bill Clinton agreed with Bush on the threat from Saddam, back when he was in office. Notice how he declined to strongly oppose the war?
In short, Smith's "article" is only damning to those predisposed to believe the worst of President Bush, and actually constitutes preaching to the choir, rather than reasoned persuasion.
