Chain and Butterfly Chair
Los Angeles-based writer and photographer Ibarionex Perello sends in this photo, which he took in Santa Fe, New Mexico, while attending a regional fair. "I shot over 20 frames trying to get the composition just right with the chain and the red butterfly chair in the background," he said. I think the result is worth it, don't you?

Moment in Balboa
This month, photographer Ibarionex Perello sends in this picture, taken in Balboa Park, in San Diego.

I like the juxtaposition of the different lines and shapes in the photo, and the sharpness of the nenuphar. One could almost touch it.

Darfur
Apologies for the lack of posts these past couple of days. I have been far too angry about the prospect of nuclear war with Iran, the atrocities in Darfur, or the mess in Iraq to contemplate blogging. I leave you with this photo, which my friend Sean Carman sent in:

Carman took the photo at last week's rally on the National Mall, in Washington, D.C. (The rally was organized by the Million Voices Campaign and SaveDarfur.org to show public support for intervention to end the genocide in Sudan.) Except for the signs, the photo could have been from 1963. Whether this is inspiring or depressing, I can't quite tell.

Misty Morning
This month, Los Angeles-based writer and photographer Ibarionex Perello sends in this lovely photo:

Of the picture, he says, "I was recently visiting friends near San Diego and we stayed at a hotel that had an adjoining golf course. I’m not a golfer, but when I saw the morning light coming through the mist, I walked out to the course and saw this pair of chairs. It was as if they were just waiting for me. It made getting up early on a weekend morning worthwhile."

Flowers on Bundy
My pal Ibarionex Perello, an accomplished writer and photographer, sends in this lovely black-and-white picture, taken during his lunch break last week, in Los Angeles:

Of the photo, he says, "As I walk down Bundy, cars whiz past me. Everyone is in a rush. I force myself to slow down and take my time; let the shafts of light guide my eyes. I finally find what I’m looking for in a collection of flowers beside an apartment building. The breeze is my nemesis as I wait it out until the petals stop moving and I’m assured a sharp photograph. When I return to the office, the work is still waiting for me, but I’ve brought with me something special, something all my own." Perello has started his own podcast, in which he interviews fellow photographers.
